Since the MRT began operating in 1987, many models and generations of trains have been introduced to the network.

High and medium capacity trains run on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), while the Light Rail Transit (LRT) uses lower capacity trains. The network exclusively uses electric multiple units (EMUs) for passenger trains. North-South Line and East-West Line trains are manned by a train captain, while newer MRT and all LRT lines are fully automated.
