Automatic fare collection gates (AFC gates) ensure that the correct travel fare is deducted from the smart cards. It also helps to restrict the flow of commuters to and from the paid area.
Wide AFC gates allow commuters in wheelchair, prams, trolley, luggage or carrying bulky items to access the paid area with ease. As technology advances, newer fare gates in Singapore have been equipped with additional features and sporting a more modernised design.

North-South Line East-West Line
Automatic Fare Collection Gates by Cubic are the first generation of fare gates used in Singapore's mass rapid transit network. They were installed in most stations along the North-South and East-West Lines.
All of these gates have been replaced by SMRT's TITAN Elite series AFC gates between 2011 and 2014, and in 2017 for Pioneer and Joo Koon stations.
These gates originally accepted the now defunct magnetic fare cards, and were upgraded in 2002 to accept contactless smart cards.

Bukit Panjang LRT
Automatic Fare Collection Turnstile Gates by Cubic are the first generation fare gates used in Singapore's light rail transit system. They were installed in stations along the Bukit Panjang LRT and have been replaced by SMRT's TITAN Elite series AFC gates in 2017.
These gates originally accepted the now defunct magnetic fare cards, and were upgraded in 2002 to accept contactless smart cards.

North-South Line East-West Line
Automatic Fare Collection Gates by ST Electronics are the second generation fare gates used in the network. They were installed in selected stations along the North-South and East-West Lines.
All of these gates have been replaced by the SMRT TITAN Elite series AFC gates from 2011 to 2014, and 2017 for Dover and Expo stations of the East-West Line.
These gates originally accepted the now defunct magnetic fare cards, and have been upgraded in 2002 to accept contactless smart cards.

Automatic Fare Collection Wide Gates by ST Electronics are installed in most stations along the North-South and East-West Lines.
These fare gates are configured to be bidirectional and there will be one of such gates installed in every of the selected North-South and East-West Lines stations. They have been replaced by SMRT's TITAN Elite series AFC gates in 2017.

Access control gates by Thales are installed in most stations on the Circle Line, Sengkang LRT and Punggol LRT. The gates on the North East Line and at the East-West Line Changi Airport station were replaced with SMRT's TITAN Elite series AFC gates.
At least one bidirectional wide retractable flap gate is installed in the selected stations.

Three variants of the TITAN series Automatic Gates are currently in use in the network.
North-South Line East-West Line North East Line Circle Line Downtown Line Bukit Panjang LRT Sengkang LRT Punggol LRT
The TITAN Elite series Automatic Gates by SMRT are installed in all stations along the North-South Line, East-West Line, North East Line and Bukit Panjang LRT, Bayfront and Marina Bay stations of the Circle Line and Downtown Line, and selected stations along the Sengkang and Punggol LRT.
Between 2011 to 2014 and in 2017, the TITAN Elite series fare gates have been replacing the older fare gates which were originally installed in stations along the North-South Line, East-West Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT. These fare gates have also been replacing the Thales fare gates that were originally installed in stations along the North East Line.
These fare gates are 10% more energy-efficient with low energy LED displays, LCD displays and servomotors. The gates are capable of differentiating between human and objects.
These gates can be integrated with a large frontal LCD display for messaging and advertisements

The TITAN Mobile series Automatic Gates by SMRT can be deployed at any stations as and when required.
These gates are typically used in-view of a larger expected crowd in the station, allowing quicker clearance through the gates.

The TITAN Cronos series Fare Gates by SMRT are wide swing gates that are installed in stations along the Bukit Panjang LRT.
At least one bidirectional wide swing gate is installed in the selected stations.

Sentosa Express
Three variants of the Automatic Gates by ST Electronics have been installed in stations along the Sentosa Express.
Commuters travelling on the Sentosa Express are only required to pay the admission fee at VivoCity station. Travelling on the Sentosa Express within the island is free.
The retractable flap gates are currently in use in VivoCity station.
These gates accept both CEPAS smart cards and the Sentosa Pass.

The turnstile gates are installed at the exit of VivoCity station and are currently not in use. They are also installed at the Sentosa Broadwalk entrance.
