Take note of these tips while travelling to ensure a smooth journey to your destination.
Travel smart to make your journey a pleasant one by taking note of these dos and don'ts on the train network.
You must have at least S$3 in your stored value card or you will not be allowed to enter the train system.
Visit the Ticketing Service Kiosks or any SimplyGo Ticket Office (available at selected MRT stations) to check or add value into your travel card.
Tap your card on the automated fare gates to enter the train system. If you are a passenger in wheelchair, carrying bulky items or with a pram, use the wide fare gates to enter the system.
Note: You have up to two hours to complete your journey.
No additional fares are charged when transferring between these lines:
East-West Line North-South Line North East Line Circle Line Downtown Line Thomson-East Coast Line Bukit Panjang LRT Sengkang LRT Punggol LRT
Proceed to the correct platforms by referring to the directional signboards.
Check the platform signage to ensure that you are on the correct platform.
Check the platform displays for the train destination and arrival timings as some trains may not head to the terminus station.
Take note of the special arrangements if you are travelling
Ask the staff or other commuters if you need help.
Hold onto the hand rails when travelling on the escalator and do not stand near the escalator landings.
Emergency stop buttons are located at both ends and at sections of the escalator.
Use the lifts if you are a passenger in wheelchair, carrying bulky items, with a pram, or feeling unwell.
Do not place your hand on the platform screen doors. Stay behind the yellow line at LRT stations.
Mind the gap between the train and the platform.
Do not rush into the train when the doors are closing.
Emergency train stop buttons can be found along the platform to stop the trains in an emergency.
Queue up and give way to alighting passengers before entering the lifts and boarding the train.
Do not eat or drink in the railway premises.
Take note of the station that you are planning to alight or transfer.
There will be in-train announcements and information systems indicating your current and next stations.
Hold onto the grab poles or hand grips.
Do not lean against the train doors.
Emergency communication buttons can be found beside the MRT train doors to contact the train staff in the event of an emergency. LRT trains are fitted with emergency train stop buttons.
Move in towards the centre of the train car for other passengers to board.
Offer your seat to someone who may need it more than you.
Do not eat or drink in the railway premises.
Do not tap out of the fare gates when transferring lines, except at these stations:
DT1 BP6 Bukit Panjang
NS21 DT11 Newton
EW2 DT32 Tampines
Note: The Sentosa Express and Changi Airport Skytrain systems are not connected with the MRT and LRT system. You will need to tap out to transfer to these systems.

Certain journeys can be completed within a shorter time frame by transferring to another station within walking distance.
There is no additional boarding charge for rail transfers made within 15 minutes in a single journey.
Use the Walking Train Map to identify stations that are within walking distance from each other.
Refer to the Walk-2-Transfer diagrams by scanning the QR code on the exit directories of the station.
Use the locality maps and exit directories in the station to find your destination or bus stop.
Proceed to the correct exit by referring to the directional signboards.
Station exits are denoted with boxed alphabetical letters.
Ask the staff or other commuters if you need help.
Alight at EW4 Tanah Merah.
Transfer to the train at platform C or D for journeys to CG1 Expo and CG2 Changi Airport.
Alight at CG Tanah Merah.
For journeys towards the city and EW33 Tuas Link, transfer to the train at platform B.
For journeys towards EW1 Pasir Ris, transfer to the train at platform A.
At CC4 Promenade Platform B:
Board the train towards CE2 Marina Bay to CE1 Bayfront and CE2 Marina Bay.
Check the platform displays for the train destination before boarding the train.
Train services from CE2 Marina Bay will end at CC6 Stadium during off-peak hours on weekdays, on Saturdays, Sundays & Public Holidays.
If you are heading towards CC29 HarbourFront from either CE2 Marina Bay or CE1 Bayfront, alight at CC6 Stadium and board the next train.
At EW29 Joo Koon Platform B:
Wait for the train to EW33 Tuas Link which will arrive every 4 to 12 minutes.
Board the train towards EW33 Tuas Link. The train will arrive every 4 to 12 minutes.
Check the platform displays for the train destination before boarding the train.
Bukit Panjang LRT will only be operating Service B via BP7 Petir during selected hours.
Use the parallel bus service 976 for journeys via Senja.
