The CRRC Qingdao Sifang CR151 trains are the first generation of rolling stock for the upcoming Cross Island Line (CRL) and will be housed in the future Changi East Depot.
44 trains of six cars each were purchased and will be delivered into Singapore from 2027 onwards.
The CR151 trains will use the Siemens Trainguard Communications-Based Train Control (CBTC) signalling system, which are capable of fully automated operations and can run without any train attendant on board.
Instead of utilising the commonly-used current collector shoes against the third-rail electrification system, the CR151 trains receive power through the pantograph, electrified by the overhead conductor rail system, similar to those used on the North East Line (NEL).
The CR151 trains are also fitted with condition monitoring systems to gather data from the equipment on the trains, enabling continuous monitoring of equipment health, allowing the operator to carry out predictive maintenance for the trains.
The Automatic Track Inspection (ATI) system will be installed on some CR151 trains for real-time monitoring of the condition of both the running rails and overhead conductor rails.
Similar to trains on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), the trains on the Cross Island Line will come with five doors on each side, instead of the usual four doors; a total of 10 doors per train carriage.

Preliminary information
Information provided on this page is preliminary information, based on the manufacturer's mock-up and proposed design.
The final design and specifications of the train may vary.
Contract CR151 for the design and building of 44 new trains for the Cross Island Line was awarded by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to CRRC Qingdao Sifang Co., Ltd. on 14 June 2023 at a value of S$589 million.
The new trains will be wholly designed and manufactured by CRRC Qingdao Sifang in Qingdao, China, and the first CR151 train is expected to arrive in Singapore from 2027, in time for the commencement of Phase 1 operations for the Cross Island Line in 2030.
The CR151 contract also includes a provision for the manufacturer to supply an additional 11 more new trains and the option for Long-Term Service Support (LTSS) for the future rail operator of the Cross Island Line.
A mixed reality (MR) mock-up of the CR151 train was launched on 23 May 2024 for LTA and stakeholders to provide feedback and evaluate the interior design and features.
The CR151 trains sport a black-and-white livery base, with accents of the Cross Island Line's light green colour.
